More than 140 Quixtar employees and family members will be boarding buses on Wednesday, Nov. 23 and heading down to New Orleans to assist with post hurricane rebuilding efforts. This is the third Quixtar Relief Team trip since Hurricane Katrina devastated the Gulf coast in late August.
The Quixtar Relief Team will be leaving from West parking lot of the Alticor main complex in Ada at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. They'll be working in conjunction with the National Relief Network and will be dismantling or repairing damaged homes in New Orleans. The National Relief Network administers volunteer relief programs for organizations and brings volunteers into state and federally declared disaster areas to help rebuild communities.
"Our company's vision is to help people live better lives," says Jim Payne, Quixtar Managing Director. "Quixtar and Alticor employees take this to heart and always step up to help those in need. The Quixtar Relief Team has helped hundreds of families over the years. We're proud of their efforts and grateful for the opportunity to help."
In addition to coordinating volunteer relief efforts, Quixtar and the Alticor family of companies have provided support for those impacted by both Hurricanes Katrina and Rita through donations of money and products valued at more than $3.4 million.
In the days immediately following Hurricane Katrina, Quixtar posted an American Red Cross donation program on its website quixtar.com through which Quixtar Independent Business Owners and employees have donated more than $469,000 to relief efforts. Quixtar's parent company, Alticor, is matching $250,000 of those funds. In addition to this match grant program, the company gave more than $330,000 in cash contributions to several national and West Michigan-based organizations involved in providing disaster aid.
In the immediate aftermath of Katrina, the company donated 117,000 bottles of water, 25,000 personal care kits containing various products marketed by Quixtar such as Glister® toothpaste and toothbrushes, hand soap, Satinique® shampoo, Body Series™ deodorant, and L.O.C.® Multipurpose Cleaner wipes, 21,348 cleaning kits, and thousands of toothbrushes, tubes of Glister toothpaste, bar soap, and other personal care products, to victims of the hurricane through International Aid’s relief efforts.
